Renewing a green card costs $415 if you file Form I-90 online and $465 on paper, according to USCIS’s fee schedule. Some filers pay nothing, and some can ask for a fee waiver. There is no separate biometrics fee on top.

The Form I-90 fee

Fees change. Check the USCIS fee schedule on the day you file, because USCIS can reject a filing sent with the wrong fee.
Fee waiver
USCIS says certain applicants may be eligible for a fee waiver using Form I-912, Request for Fee Waiver. The catch: you cannot file Form I-90 online if you are asking for a fee waiver. It has to go on paper.
Why filing online is cheaper
The $50 difference is USCIS’s own pricing for online filing. Online filing also shows you when USCIS receives the application and lets you respond to requests through your account. If you are not asking for a fee waiver, it is the cheaper and simpler route.
What you won’t pay
- No separate biometrics fee. It isn’t listed on top of the I-90 fee.
- No fee at all if the card is wrong because of a DHS error. You send the original card back with proof of the correct information.
- Nothing to use your receipt notice. It is proof of status for 36 months past the card’s expiration at no extra cost.
