“Case Was Approved”: what it means
USCIS approved your application or petition. An approval notice is on its way.
What this status means
An officer has decided in your favor. USCIS mails an approval notice (Form I-797) that serves as the official record.
For card-based benefits such as a green card or work permit, the card is produced separately after approval.
What usually happens next
- Card-based cases usually move to "New Card Is Being Produced" and then "Card Was Mailed To Me".
- For a petition, approval can be one step in a longer process, such as waiting for a visa number or consular processing.
What to do now
- Keep the approval notice with your important documents.
- Check every detail on the notice and, later, on the card. Report errors to USCIS promptly.
